ICG Builds The John Hancock Center's first LEED Project!

As the parent company of several marketing communications firms, the client, retained ICG to build-out over 150,000 sq. ft. for several agency brands at the John Hancock Center.

The reception area for this particular agency is a tribute to modern design with striking butternut worm wood floors, a stone feature wall and large glass doors. More than just a reception area, this gathering space reflects the informal collaborative culture that the client emulates. The wood floors join seamlessly with porcelain tile in the interior hall and elevator lobby. In order to execute the client and architect’s design, ICG conducted a floor survey to determine the levelness of the floors. Working with subcontractors, ICG ensured that the floor was precisely leveled in order to accommodate both design and function in the space.

Low profile workspaces, glass fronted offices, and vibrant colors work together to highlight the expansive windows and views of Lake Michigan and Chicago. Contemporary pendant light fixtures are found in the employee lounge areas and most notably in the worm wood ceiling. The clear bulbs and thin wires allow the light to enhance the color variations in the worm wood without taking up physical space.

The client’s commitment to a sustainable work environment was emphasized with the client’s desire to obtain LEED Certification. ICG led the team, acting as the LEED Project Administrator and the project exceeded the client’s goal by obtaining LEED Silver Certification.

By working together in the early stages of design development, the team monitored the budget and controlled changes to less than 50% of the client’s contingency to successfully achieve the client’s vision.
